In November of 2020, I solicited help from my 66 Instagram followers to raise money for a project that was important to me, both personally and professionally.
I began working as a non-clinical Sexual Assault Counselor for a local domestic and sexual violence agency in 2018 when someone very close to me had experienced sexual violence. Although I had the professional skills and ability to support any other person dealing with this trauma, I found that I was in a position of helplessness because of my relationship. The secondary trauma of this reality was overwhelmingly difficult to deal with and I couldn't help but feel like I needed to do more. Although, the circumstances were completely outside of my control, and I had no say in whether or not authorities got involved and accountability was taken, I needed to do SOMETHING. That was my way of trying to control what I could, of the outcome. In January of 2020, feeling inspired by my personal life and brainstorming projects in my professional, the idea of a comfort box for survivors was placed in my heart. The COVID-19 Pandemic delayed things and made it impossible for me to connect with the right folks at local hospitals but I refused to let this passion project die. I eventually moved, and began working in a different capacity but refused to give up on the idea. Today, I am excited to share that my Instagram community came through and helped me raise enough money to fund the first 40 Haven Boxes for Survivors. I'm forever grateful for the support and am excited to share this journey with all of you. The Haven Box project is divinely designed and servant executed. Thank you for your support. Brandie |
